Morrigan Simpson-Marran joined the VCIM ESG team in October 2021. She works with her team to help publicly listed companies find innovative solutions to modern social, environmental, and governance issues as well as help them maximize the opportunities the clean energy transition may provide.
Morrigan grew up in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had the privilege of exploring Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis, Ĩyãħé Nakón mąkóce (Stoney), Niitsítpiis-stahkoii ᖹᐟᒧᐧᐨᑯᐧ ᓴᐦᖾᐟ (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ), Tsuut’ina, and Michif Piyii (Métis) land. Being surrounded by nature and the complexities of resource extraction gave her a keen interest in creating a more equitable, sustainable world.
After graduating with distinction from the University of Alberta with a degree in economics and a specialization in resource and energy systems management, Morrigan began working in the environmental non-governmental organization space. This gave her the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the impact of energy development on communities, nature-based solutions, electricity grid modernization, emissions accounting, sustainable finance, and more. During her tenure in the ENGO space she published over 10 papers and advised on many more.
During her down time, she pursues various passions such as cycling, hiking, paddle boarding, and spending time with her dog.
